Was I too harsh on Google's Arabic Search?

I woke up this morning thinking I was a little harsh on Google's Arabic search capabilities in my entry here about how an Arabic keyword search returns Farsi results.

I hadn't specified that I want search in Arabic pages. So I had to run the search specifying the search in Arabic pages, and I did.

And you know what? I still get results in Farsi. It is still early in the morning but a quick scan seems to have top results in Farsi.

So there you go, Larry, I am 100% confident Arabic search on Google is deficient and even ineffective in some times. And your hiring people for the Middle East, who are completely oblivious to how the problems occur and how to solve them, is like the blind leading the blind. And, just because the leading blind happen to be from the neighborhood where the neighborhood stretches for millions of square miles/kilmoeters and the neighbors are about 300-400 million.

No, I was not too harsh on Google's Arabic search, I'm doing you favors.

Google's Arabic Double Whamy!

"ظپظٹ طظ‚ط¨ط© ظ…ظ† ط§ظ„ط²ظ…ظ†ط·"

Don't re-click on this link if you have already done that. And no, I am not repeating an entry. The link was a typo but it gave me a new insight into Google's Arabic, well eh... mess. I had some how screwed-up the link for the story from Al-Arabiya "news" site. The story is rubbish, but Al-Arabiya whose name litterally means "The Arab One" had this silly typo where the word "ط§ظ„ط²ظ…ظ† " appears as "ط§ظ„ط²ظ…ظ†ط· ".

I missed the link and had this been a real self-respecting news site, it would have caught and corrected. So I wondered on my way to locating this blemish so very typical of alarabiya.net if this odd non-word had deen indexed by Google. I gave it a shot. Crap! It is there. What the...
Just in case, I am going through my Arabic-Arabic references to see if it exists...

Sheesh! I am good. This is not even a word.

So, let me get this straight: The top search results for a word quite common in Arabic are in Farsi and a word that is not even part of the language is indexed!?!

Am sorry to say this, but this is a world class entry. Going into the mother of ass log.

Larry, your guys in the EMEA office have my number, walla man, give it a shot.

Google still can't tell Arabic from Farsi

Try this search for the Arabic word ط³ظ†طھظٹ which in this form could mean my tradition or two years in one of its forms.

Apparently, and depsite the fact that the search has been generated from Google.ae, the top results are in Farsi!

Larry, what are you doing? Just buy the technology for God's sake. It exists already!

Google doing the local-motion in the Middle East

telecommunication Middle East - ط¨طط« Google

The link above is the link to a search string I ran through my firefox browser from my Google search page in Arabic. The usual right-to-left-yet-still feelsodd stuff. All is well in "Camelot", or is it?

I ran the same search string from my Google bar whose region setting is not Arabia, and look at what I got

telecommunication Middle East - Google Search

Apparently a search supposedly unrestricted on the web returns different results according to the some attibutes invisible to the originator of the query. Is this localized search أ  la Google Middle East!? Check out the quality of the results and the relevance.

What do you think?
